Sad day for Wanborough Tennis Club

Today 24.08.2017 saw the funeral of Wanborough Tennis Club’s ” Mrs Tennis” our very own President, Dawn Hopkins.

A very large number of past and present Club members plus family and friends filled the Chapel at the Crematorium. During a lovely service we got to know so much more about Dawn’s colourful and varied life although Tennis dominated those years.

The picture shows Dawn’s beautiful coffin decorated with a panoramic view of Centre Court Wimbledon. With a floral wreath of a tennis racquet and ball.

Court re-painting schedule

Due to an unfortunate accident to our Contractor which prevents him from working at present, we have to source a new Company to complete the painting of our 4 courts.

We will continue with the courts as at present but will be looking for a quick solution that will hopefully not affect our Summer League matches.

Louise Hunt at Wimbledon 2016

Louise Hunt our very own Super Star was this year playing in both the Wimbledon Ladies Singles and Mixed Doubles.

In what for all of us would be a life time dream, Louise lived that dream.

There were a small contingent of Family and Friends from Wanborough and further a field, to cheer Louise on. Plus for a short period the Duchess of Cambridge watched from her balcony and later in the Tournament Louise got to meet her.

In the singles Louise lost to the World number 4 ranked lady M. Buis who the previous week had won the French Open title. And in the Doubles, playing along side her Singles opponent Louise won her Quarter Final but failed to progress in the semi Final.

A consolation for Louise is that she been selected to represent Great Britain at the Rio Olympics.

Well done Louise, a credit to Wanborough Tennis Club
